Dramatic agave plants bloom in the springtime desert. The flower stalk emerges from the rosette of leaves slowly over a few weeks in the spring. It starts blooming from the bottom, taking its time to complete the entire stalk. I was able to include all of the different stages of bloom - and decided to leave out the busy desert back drop - focusing only on the plant. Agave’s bloom once and then wither back into the earth. Luckily for us, there are usually several pups waiting to grow up themselves! This painting was a commission for a collector in Palm Springs - it brings vivid color to the end of her hallway.
